Free Everyone Active Membership For Those With Parkinson's Posted on 12 Apr 2022

From 11th April, people with Parkinson’s will be offered a free Everyone Active membership.

Parkinson's is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world, and currently there is no cure. 1 in 37 people alive today in the UK will be diagnosed with Parkinson's in their lifetime. Estimates show that around 145,000 people live with a Parkinson's diagnosis in the UK in 2020.

Through research we know;

  • Doing 2.5 hours of exercise a week can slow the progression Parkinson’s symptoms.
  • Exercise can help people manage physical symptoms and other symptoms such as sleep problems, fatigue, mood and mental health.
  • Exercise can be as important as medication to help people take control and manage their Parkinson’s symptoms.

Process

This is an ongoing multisite membership that includes Gym, lane and public swimming, group exercise classes, online Dance Synergy and the NHS approved physical activity prescription app, EXi. (If you deliver condition specific classes such as Parkinson’s or ‘Neurofit’, these classes will still be chargeable and are not part of the free Parkinson’s membership.)

Individuals will be asked to follow the join online process, on our Parkinson’s landing page www.everyoneactive.com/parkinsons. A join in-centre option is also available for additional support. Please utilise the same join online process.

We will ask individuals to complete online surveys on their physical and mental wellbeing at the start of the membership, 3 months, 9 months and 12 months.

Existing direct debit members will need to cancel their membership and complete their last month up front before they are able to complete the Parkinson’s Join Online process.
